This course provides online training for physical therapists in the delivery of Enhanced Medical Rehabilitation (E-MR). (Bland, 2016; Hildebrand, 2012; Host 2014; Lenze, 2012; Lenze, 2013; Lenze 2018) The goal of this course is to blend current evidence and best clinical practice into a didactic and interactive electronic format to assist clinicians in delivering their interventions in a way to improve patient engagement to enhance outcomes. In order for patients to benefit from rehabilitation, they need to be engaged. Patient engagement is defined as “deliberate effort and commitment to working toward the goals of rehabilitation therapy, typically demonstrated through active participation and cooperation with treatment providers.” (Lequerica, 2009) In an effort to improve patient engagement and subsequently patient outcomes, E-MR, techniques focusing on an interactive patient-directed approach was developed. E-MR is a set of patient engagement skills that a clinician can employ throughout their treatment sessions. This course will provide the tools for clinicians to understand and then implement E-MR into their clinical practice.
