Double Jeopardy: Stroke After Trauma
Double Jeopardy: Stroke After Trauma is organized by American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
Released/Updated: Oct 10, 2021
Expires: Dec 31, 2024
Activity Summary:
The care of individuals following traumatic injury is complex, as is their risk for the development of stroke. Nervous and musculoskeletal system injuries can make assessment and recognition of neurologic changes a challenge. Lectures and case studies are utilized in this foundational content to discuss and identify injuries at the greatest risk for stroke development, the pathophysiology of why, and the evidence-based treatment plan to support individual recovery and progression in healing.
Objectives:
• Identify traumatic injuries and pathophysiology that contribute to increased risk for stroke development.
• Discuss assessment techniques and findings predictive and representative of new-onset stroke in the presence of trauma.
• Describe evidence-based treatment modalities for the prevention of acute stroke following traumatic injury.
