Description:
Dosage Calculation Review is for nursing students and healthcare professionals desiring to enhance their calculation skills. The two-hour program covers the calculation of oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous medications for both pediatric and adult populations. Mathematical skills will be reviewed and interactive practice problems will be included after each module to reinforce the math skills needed to correctly calculate dosages.
Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
• Recognize the relative value of decimals and fractions.
• Solve equations with whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
• Recognize medical and equivalent abbreviations.
• Identify metric and apothecary measures.
• Convert metric measures within the metric system.
• Convert metric measures to common household equivalents.
• Read drug labels by identifying drug name (trade and generic) and drug strength.
• Calculate the correct dosages according to the physician orders and label information.
• Administer medications safely by the identified administration routes, PO, intramuscular, intravenous, and subcutaneous.
• Identify the correct route, medication, and calculation for both the pediatric and adult populations.
