
Delivering Difficult News


The approach when delivering difficult news to a patient or family is a challenging yet necessary skill for healthcare professionals in all specialties. This special situation requires a humanistic, professional and competent approach encompassing multiple tools as outlined in this program. Additional points of consideration include being aware of the consequences of poorly delivering difficult news, the importance of empathy and communication and finally being familiar with the current models available such as the SPIKES model when delivering difficult news.
