Cultural Competency Part II

This 2-part CME educational activity discusses the relevance and importance in recognizing cultural differences in the healthcare setting. Pertinent, necessary components and examples are discussed including defining cultural competency, the need for cultural competence in recognizing health disparities and equity, strategies to better include competency and the multitude of barriers to cultural competency in today’s healthcare system. 

Educational Objectives:
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

1. Define cultural competency and its importance in a healthcare setting.
2. Recognize the necessity of cultural competence on health disparities and health equity in the medical setting.
3. Identify strategies to better include cultural competency when providing medical care
4. Explore the cultural competency barriers present in today’s healthcare system.
