Description:
Pharmacists are commonly dispensing continuous glucose monitoring supplies and very few have been educated on these devices within their graduate and post-graduate training. This module will provide the training needed to be comfortable educating patients on aspects of each continuous glucose monitoring system available currently.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
• Explain the mechanism of continuous glucose monitors (CGM), paying particular attention to explaining why finger stick and CGM readings may differ.
• Summarize the unique features of each continuous glucose monitor available within the US
• Evaluate directional arrows or ambulatory glucose reports and provide guidance to patients to correct their glucose patterns
• Demonstrate ability to teach patients how to use CGM as well as troubleshoot problems that arise
