Cardiac Ultrasound
The course incorporates a vital component of cardiac ultrasound, also known as echocardiography. Participants will delve into the fundamental principles of cardiac ultrasound imaging and develop the skills to evaluate cardiac structures and assess cardiac function. They will explore various echocardiographic views and measurements through comprehensive instruction, enabling them to diagnose and interpret common cardiac conditions, including valvular abnormalities, myocardial infarction, and congestive heart failure. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and expertise to utilize cardiac ultrasound in clinical practice confidently.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Describe the four standard cardiac imaging planes in addition to the different views available.
- Identify the appropriate transducer, handling, and US setting for best image acquisition.
- Identify surrogates for left ventricular global function.
- Identify the appropriate views to assess left ventricular function.
- Describe the appearance of the inferior vena cava on ultrasound.
- Explain how to use the inferior vena cava on ultrasound clinically.
- Describe the appearance of pericardial effusion and tamponade ultrasound.
