Advanced statistics via the Internet: Table analysis and logistic regression is organized by Norwegian Geriatrics Society - The Norwegian Medical Association / Norsk Geriatrisk Forening - Den norske legeforening and will be held from Sep 09 - Nov 18, 2024.
Purpose of the course:
The purpose of the course is to familiarize the participants with concepts and methods related to covariance analysis for categorical data, with an emphasis on tabular analysis and logistic regression. These are analysis methods that have become important in medical research. Since the emphasis will be on analysis and discussion of examples, the statistics program SPSS will be used. It is required that the participants have completed the introductory course in statistics, or acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way. The topics are partly based on some of the topics in the introductory course, but in this course a more in-depth and comprehensive presentation of them is given.
Contents:
• Table analysis, 2x2 tables, rxc tables. Performance measures. The chi-square test.
• Fisher's exact test, stratified analyses, the Mantel-Haenszel estimator, Mantel-Haenszel's test observer. Confusion and effect modification
• Simple logistic regression
• Multiple logistic regression
• Design and analysis methods.
Theme Overview:
Topic 1: Table analysis, 2x2 tables, rxc tables. Performance measures. The chi-square test . Hypothesis testing and confidence interval estimation in 2x2 tables and rxc tables. Fisher's exact test for tables with few observations. Start: 9 September 2024. Deadline for submitting exercise work: 23 September 2024.
Topic 2: Fisher's exact test, stratified analyses, the Mantel-Haenszel estimator, Mantel-Haenszel's test observer. Confounding and effect modification . Stratified analyses, with hypothesis testing and confidence interval estimation. Confusion and effect modification. Start: 23 September 2024. Deadline for submitting practical work: 7 October 2024.
Topic 3: Simple logistic regression . Analysis of covariance for categorical data with one continuous or one categorical explanatory variable. Start: 7 October 2024. Deadline for submitting practice work: 2|. October 2024.
Topic 4: Multiple logistic regression analysis . Analysis of covariance for categorical data with several continuous or categorical explanatory variables is reviewed. Methods for assessing model fit are also reviewed. Start: 2|. October 2024. Deadline for submitting practical work: 3 November 2024.
Theme 5: Design, impact measures and analysis methods . An overall presentation of the regression analysis is given. This is put in context with the type of design and effect target. Start: 3 November 2024. Deadline for submitting exercise work: 18 November 2024.
