Description:
Microaggressions are commonplace behaviors and attitudes toward others that arise from conscious or unconscious bias. These events negatively affect the clinical learning environment and have been implicated in the perpetuation of disparities in health and healthcare. This Grand Rounds session will provide a framework to assist clinicians in developing appropriate responses to a variety of microaggressions. The session focuses on the skills necessary to communicate dissent and provide support, and empowers bystanders and allies to counter the negative impact of microaggressions.
Objectives:
After completing this course, the learner should be better able to:
• Define microaggressions
• Identify the impact of microaggressions
• Develop and practice strategies to address microaggressions in the workplace
