3-hour On-Demand: Brain Health, Nutrition, and Cognitive Performance

3-hour On-Demand: Brain Health, Nutrition, and Cognitive Performance is organized by CE International.
Expiration Date: 2-15-2024
Course Description & Information:
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is an intermediate stage between the expected cognitive decline of normal aging and the more serious decline of dementia. It can involve problems with memory, language, thinking, and judgment that are greater than normal age-related changes. Nutrition has been shown to be an integral part of brain function and cognitive performance. Nutrients including amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, caffeine, and carbohydrates each have a documented effect on cognition. Nutrition and its relationship to diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease can also affect brain function and cognition. Each of these topics will be explored in this webinar.
Course Objectives:
• Explain how dietary macronutrient intake and composition can affect cognition.
• Identify the role of diet in mitochondria health and cognitive performance.
• State the mechanisms by which select vitamins/minerals that have been shown to have beneficial effects in the treatment of age-related dementia.
• List neurotoxins that are in our food supply and their effect on memory and cognition.
• Discuss dietary nutrients that have been shown to be critical in brain development and growth.
• Review the relationship between oxidative damage, inflammation, and impaired nutrition in the brain.
• Interpret the research on ketogenic diets, intermittent fasting, and plant-based diets for patients with Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
