Dr. Sandile Mhlongo is a qualified Medical Doctor and Health Economist with a special interest in Healthcare Financing and Purchasing. He obtained his undergraduate MB, ChB degree at the University of Free State in 2003. He subsequently obtained a Master of Science in Health Economics and PharmacoEconomics in Barcelona, Spain in 2013.
As a medical professional, Dr Mhlongo has worked as a clinician in various roles and many clinical disciplines in both the Public and Private Sectors across South Africa from 2004-2015.
In 2010, he started his career in healthcare administration and managed care with Discovery Health where he served in various roles until 2019. In his last position with Discovery Health, he served as the Deputy General Manager overseeing oncology, population health, and mental health.
He subsequently joined the Netcare Group later in 2019 as the Managing Director for Mental Health division (commonly known as Akeso Clinics) where he served as a member of the Netcare’s Executive Committee. Since 2021, Dr. Mhlongo has serves as the Managing Director and Chief Health Economist at Curis Solutions, a healthcare consulting and strategic advisory firm based in Pretoria, South Africa.
