Raul S. Gonzalez, MD is an Associate Professor of Pathology at Emory University, where he is the Director of Gastrointestinal Pathology and the Co-Director of Anatomic Pathology Research. He received his MD from the Medical College of Georgia and completed AP/CP residency training at Emory University, followed by fellowships in surgical and gastrointestinal pathology at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Gonzalez has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has authored a textbook on liver pathology, as well as chapters for several other textbooks and numerous topics on Pathology Outlines. He has lectured nationally and internationally, including at USCAP and CAP annual meetings, and has given several lectures on the pathCast platform. He is the Chair of the CAP Surgical Pathology Committee, the Vice Chair of the Education Committee for the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society, a founding member of Virtual Pathology Grand Rounds, the Social Media Editor for Human Pathology, the Reviews Editor for Histopathology, and a member of the American Board of Pathology's Continuing Certification Advisory Committee.
Dr. Gonzalez maintains active Twitter and Facebook pages dedicated to educational pathology content and was the first winner of the #PathTweetAward. He was named one of the American Society for Clinical Pathology's 40 Under Forty in 2016, and one of the Emory Alumni Association's 40 Under Forty in 2018. In 2020, he won the Richard B. Cohen Award in recognition of excellence in the teaching of anatomic pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
