Mr Nicos Kessaris is a Consultant Transplant Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, an Honorary Consultant at Great Ormond Street and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College, London. He also sees patients privately, including at London Bridge Hospital and The Portland Hospital. He has been a Consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ since 2012 and is largely involved in renal, pancreas as well and paediatric transplantation. He performs hand-assisted retroperitoneoscopic live donor nephrectomy, vascular access and peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion, parathyroidectomy and general surgery for renal patients. Mr Kessaris is the Surgical Lead for Paediatric Kidney Transplantation at Evelina London and Great Ormond Street Hospitals, the Chair of the Surgical Safety Group at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and a Councillor of the European Society for Organ Transplantation.
Mr Kessaris undertook Specialist Registrar training in general surgery and transplantation in London and spent his last two years of training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and Hammersmith Hospitals. He worked at St George’s Renal Transplant Unit as a Consultant during 2007–2012 and was Director of Transplantation for the last two years, successfully establishing the ABO and HLA incompatible transplant programmes.
