Dr. George J. Klein, MD, FRCPC, FCAHS, is currently a Professor of Medicine at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. He received his medical degree in 1972 at the Univerity of Toronto. He received his certification from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine in 1976 and Cardiology in 1978. He has been an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Physiology at Western University since 1993. He was an Ontario Career Investigator with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario from 1987 to 1989. He received the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Research Achievement Award in 1988 (Cardiac Arrhythmias: From the Bench to the Operating Theatre). The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario honored him with the Distinguished Research Professorship award from 1989-1994.
Dr. George's research focus has been on cardiac arrhythmia with contributions to the natural history of management of the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, the operative and ablative management of arrhythmias, and the understanding of clinical syncope. He is the inventor of the implantable loop recorder (Reveal Rx). He is deputy editor of the Journal of Cardiac Electrophysiology (JCE), Associate Editor of Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology (PACE), and is on the Editorial Board of seven scientific journals. He served on the Test Committee for cardiac electrophysiology of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) from 1996 to 2005 and was Chair of the Committee from 2000 to 2005. He was the 2003 recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award of the North American Society for Pacing and Electrophysiology (now known as "The heart Rhythm Society"). He has supervised the arrhythmia training of 65 Research Fellows over the years. He has published 9 books, 98 book chapters, and 554 papers and currently holds 12 US patents.
