Evelien Snauwaert Resident at the Pediatrics Department of Ghent University Hospital, Department of Nephrology and Rheumatology for Children. After completing her medical studies at Ghent University in 2011, Evelien Snauwaert completed her training as a pediatrician at the Ghent University Hospital in 2018. During her training as a pediatrician, she began to specialize in pediatric nephrology and obtained the interuniversity diploma in 2017. degree in Pediatric Nephrology (DIU Néphrologie Pédiatrique) from the Université Paris Descartes (France). In 2019, Evelien Snauwaert completed her doctoral thesis entitled "Uremic Toxin Accumulation and Removal in Chronic Kidney Disease: A Pediatric Perspective".
Since November 2018, Evelien Snauwaert has been working as a resident at the Nephrology and Rheumatology Children's Department, where she completed her training as a pediatric nephrologist and rheumatologist. From July 2019 to July 2020, Evelien Snauwaert further specialized in kidney diseases in children at The Hospital of Sick Children in Toronto (Canada).
Since 2014, Evelien Snauwaert has been conducting scientific research into the importance of the accumulation of toxic waste products (uremic toxins) in children with chronic renal insufficiency and into the way in which these waste products can be removed with renal replacement treatments such as dialysis. This research project, the UToPaed project, is a close collaboration between the Nephrology department and the Children's Nephrology department of the Ghent University Hospital, from a multidisciplinary perspective (dietitians, psychologists, pediatric cardiology)within a Belgian and European network.
In The Pediatric Renal Nutrition Taskforce (Europe, North America) she contributes to improving the nutritional approach to children with kidney disease. Evelien Snauwaert built up experience in quality improvement research during her training at The Hospital of Sick Children in Toronto (Canada).
