Chair, Director, Professor

Dr. Bruera is chair of the Department of Palliative Care and Rehabilitation Medicine at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Bruera holds the F.T. McGraw Chair in the Treatment of Cancer at M.D. Anderson and serves on the Scientific Review Committee at the National Palliative Care Research Center in New York. His chief clinical interest is the care of the physical and psychological distress of patients with advanced cancer and their families.

Dr. Bruera has been interested in establishing palliative care programs internationally, particularly in the developing world, where he helped establish numerous programs in Latin America, India and areas of Europe. He was president of the International Association of Hospice and Palliative Care for four years ending in January 2006. Over the past 20 years, he has trained hundreds of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals in aspects of palliative care.
