Catherine M. Broome, MD, is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology. She has been on staff at the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center for thirteen years.
A fascination with the science of hematology and the opportunity to develop a strong relationship with patients and their families led Dr. Broome to specialize in hematology and medical oncology. Dr. Broome focuses on developing a partnership with her patients, providing them with the most up-to-date information and treatment options. They work together to develop a treatment plan that fits medically, while also taking into account all aspects of the patient's life.
Because participation in clinical research programs is an important part of Lombardi Cancer Center's treatment philosophy, Dr. Broome is able to offer patients the opportunity to be part of clinical trials for a variety of diseases including ITP, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, cold agglutinin disease, and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Broome is also an associate professor in the Lombardi Cancer Center's department of medicine, teaching the next generation of physicians. She also serves on the hospital's safety committee, which focuses on developing programs and policies to ensure that patient safety is a top priority throughout MedStar Health.
