Assuntina Sacco, MD, is a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancers. She cares for patients with all types of head and neck cancer, including thyroid cancer and salivary gland cancer.
As medical director of the Infusion Center at Moores Cancer Center, Dr. Sacco is also responsible for medical supervision and leads efforts to uphold medical quality. Her research is primarily focused on head and neck cancers caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Her goal is to identify non-invasive biomarkers that can be used by oncologists to individualize care for patients with HPV-related head and neck cancer.
Dr. Sacco is also actively working to open clinical trials that offer novel cancer treatments. She is deeply committed to improving treatment-related outcomes and quality of life for her patients. Dr. Sacco is well-published in the field of head and neck cancer, including being published as a first author in Lancet Oncology. She is a current member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Dr. Sacco earned her medical degree at the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Illinois. She completed her medical residency in internal medicine at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. She completed her fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she was named Fellow of the Year.
